Nature: Vehicle Accident

On Saturday, July 16th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway at or near the Nanticoke Indian Museum. It was reported to be a two vehicle collision with two persons trapped.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine 80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Sussex County Paramedics, local emergency response providers, and the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included assistance with patient stabilization, vehicle stabilization, incident mitigation, traffic control, debris and fluid recover, as well as scene preservation.

It appears that a red Chevrolet Trailblazer entered the John J. Williams Highway in from of a westbound GMC SUV when the vehicles collided. The occupants of the Trailblazer were reported trapped however, freed themselves and at least one departed the incident location. At least one of the vehicle’s occupant were transported for additional observation.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating and coordinated a search.
