Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: Harmons Hill Rd and Indian Millsboro, DE 19966

ON Wednesday, July 6^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist the Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company with a vehicle accident involving occupant entrapment on Indian Mission Road at Harmon’s Hill Road.  It was reported to be a serious two vehicle collision.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-3, Rescue 80, and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. 

Emergency response crew assignments included overall scene mitigation, assistance with patient stabilization and vehicle extrication, traffic control, vehicle stabilization and incident preservation. 

It appears that a black Ford Escape and blue Chrysler mini-van collided on Indian Mission Road at or near the intersection of Harmons Hill Road.  Both vehicles sustained significant damage.  The occupant of the Escape was trapped within the vehicle and required complete removal of the vehicle’s roofing. 

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the complete roadway closure for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred north of Long Neck.

The incident occurred around 8:50 p.m., Wednesday July 6, 2016, as 18 year-old Sara Lingo of Millsboro, was operating a 2009 Ford Escape eastbound on Harmons Hill Road approaching the intersection with Indian Mission Road (SR 5), controlled by a stop sign.  A 58-year-old Millsboro man was operating a 2007 Chrysler Town and Country southbound on Indian Mission Road approaching the intersection at Harmons Hill Road with the right of way.  Lingo failed to remain stopped at the stop sign and entered the intersection directly into the path of the Town and Country, resulting in a collision in the southbound lane. After impact, the Ford Escape rotated slightly counterclockwise before coming to stop in the southeast corner of the intersection.  The Town and Country also rotated slightly counterclockwise and came to a stop in the middle of the intersection.

The 58-year-old male was not properly restrained and pronounced dead at the scene.  His name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

Sara Lingo, who was properly restrained, was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Beebe Healthcare where she is currently admitted with undetermined injuries.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident and charges may be forthcoming.  Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this case.  SR5 was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Millsboro man dead following two-vehicle crash in Long Neck

A Millsboro man is killed in a fatal two-vehicle crash in Long Neck.

 The Indian River Volunteer Fire Department got the call about the crash just before 9 o'clock Wednesday night on Indian Mission Road near Harmons Hill Road.

 Delaware State Police say 18-year-old Sara Lingo was eastbound on Harmons Hill Road in her Ford Escape and the victim was southbound on Indian Mission Road in his Chrysler Town and Country van; police say Lingo failed to remain stopped at the stop sign and crashed into the victims van.

The, as-of-yet-unidentified, man was NOT properly restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene. Lingo, who was properly buckled in, was taken to Beebe Hospital where she was admitted with undetermined injuries.

The crash remains under investigation; police say alcohol and drugs do NOT appear to be contributing factors.

 Route 5 was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
