Nature: Gas Leak

Location: 35542 Knoll Way Millsboro, DE 19966

On Sunday morning, July 3rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a reported gas leak and an odor investigation in the Knoll Way area of Mariner’s Cove.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard area and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation and assessment in order to determine the location of the source. It was also determined during the evaluation phase that this incident was reported to the property management personnel within the manufactured home community with no notification to the Sussex County Emergency Operations, local fire company, or utility service provider.

Upon evaluation and ground monitoring, the emergency response personnel were able to locate a source which was determined to be a leak from an underground propane storage tank with the proper authorities being notified.
