On Saturday afternoon, May 7th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an appliance fire on Sussex Lane in Mariner’s Cove off of Long Neck Road.  After the incident upgrade, the Lewes (82) and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for the incident as well.  Initially, it was reported to be a dryer fire that has extended into the residential structure after numerous calls to the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard Station as well as Engines #80-3 and #80-1 from the Long Neck Station.  The Delaware State Fire Police, the Sussex County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office made a response as well.

Emergency response crew assignments included initial fire suppression attacks, positive pressure ventilation, and water resource, incident overhaul to evaluate extensions, and clean-up.  The dryer unit was also removed from the residential structure.  There were no civilian or firefighter injuries associated with the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
