Nature: Vehicle Accident Possibly Serious

Location: Subject Trapped 30295 Mount Joy Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966

On Tuesday morning, January 19th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Mount Joy Road between Cannon and Cordrey Roads. It was reported to be serious with entrapment.

Emergency response crews from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Utility 80-11 from the Oak Orchard facility; Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility, as well as the Delaware State Fire Police and the aviation unit from the Delaware State Police. Additional rescue company assistance was required from the Millsboro (83) fire company because entrapment was prevalent in both vehicles.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation, scene preservation, patient and vehicle stabilization, and preparation for extrication of vehicle occupants. The extrication measures were quite extensive.

The Delaware Department of Transportation was called to provide assistance with traffic control and arrow-boards.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.

FATAL CRASH IN MILLSBORO TUESDAY MORNING

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred this morning just east of Millsboro. 49-year-old Robert Weaver’s truck ran off the side of Mt. Joy Road for unknown reasons – he overcorrected and swerved into the oncoming lane, striking a sedan driven by a 31-year-old Millsboro female. Weaver’s truck flipped several times, but he was properly restrained and was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries. The female was also properly restrained, but she was pronounced dead at Beebe Medical Center – her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The crash is currently under investigation and charges have not yet been filed.
