Friday January, 1 2016 @ 01:53 Nature: Vehicle Accident Location: Oak Orchard Rd. at River Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966 Early Friday morning, New Year's Day - January 1st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident at the intersection of Oak Orchard Road and River Road. It was reported to be a vehicle accident where a reported pick-up truck did not successfully navigate the intersection striking a number of make-shift pilings and a telephone pole. Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility. Engine #80-1 was cancelled while responding to the emergency incident. Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation because it appears that the culprit and vehicle fled the scene of the accident causing significant damage and utility service outrages. The respective pole information was forwarded to the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center for notification of the respective utility provider. It appears that the vehicle (reportedly a pick-up truck) did not successfully navigate a full stop and turn at the intersection and struck the make-shift pilings and utility pole cracking the utility pole and causing significant damage to the underground public utilities. The incident also negatively impacted the utility power to the area, the cable television service, the internet service, and the public water service until all services were restored. The Delaware State Fire Police assigned with traffic control. The Delaware State Police are investigating and possibly searching for a pick-up truck, red in color, and possibly a Dodge based upon the remnants left at the incident location. |
