Nature: Building Fire

Location: 32975 Shoppes At Long Neck, Millsboro, DE 19966

On Wednesday, October 21st, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for a residential structure fire in the Shoppes of Long Neck, Apartment #2. It was reported to be a working alarm with flames visible within the second floor windows of the building.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Ladder 80, Tanker 80, Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-1 and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility. Additional resources included the Delaware State Fire Police, the Sussex County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Emergency response crew assignments included building evacuation, incident mitigation and resolution. Engine #80-3 advanced two 1¾” fire suppression attack lines and was able to quickly identify that this incident was the result of an unattended candle burning. Emergency response units were downgraded to Indian River units on scene. Additional efforts for positive pressure ventilation were implemented.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control, traffic contract, and scene safety procedures.
