Nature: Fire Prevention Program - Day #1 – Long Neck Elementary School

City: Millsboro

On Monday, October 19th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company implements its newest fire prevention program at the Long Neck Elementary School. The purpose of the program is to enhance awareness of fire prevention measures and develop methods amongst school child to identify dangers of fire.

The fire prevention theme for 2015 is “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep: Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm.”

This day activities included students from the Pre-K environment, kindergarten, and fourth grades. Program activities included some of the following:

Pre-K and Kindergarten Activities:

• Booking Reading – Going to the Fire House;

• Firefighters are your friends workbook and exercise;

• Friendly Firefighter demonstration;

• Name the Firefighter contest; and

• Actual testing of smoke alarms.

Fourth Grade Activities:

• Help Call 9-1-1 Workbook;

• EDITH – Exit Drill In the House Activity;

• Muster Exercises;

• Apparatus Awareness;

• 9-1-1 Call Demonstration and practice exercises;

• To Become a Firefighter; and

• Actual testing of smoke alarms.
