Monday, October, 5 2015 Nature: Assist Delmarva Power City: Coastal Highway Sussex County Fire Companies Assist Delmarva Power Over the past few days of inclement weather, the most recent nor’easter storm delivered large volumes of tidal water and unwanted residue. This residue of salt and sand was successful with contaminating the electrical utility pole insulators along the Coastal Highway. The Sussex County Emergency Operations (EOC) in collaboration with Delmarva Power coordinated a concentrated effort to eliminate the potential for electrical service interruption by having your local volunteer firefighters perform the cleansing of the electrical insulators. The cleansing of the electrical insulators is achieved by having a monitor pipe located on the top of the fire truck provide a highly pressurized, large volume of water streamed towards these insulators thereby cleaning them of any residue from the periods of inclement weather. Volunteers from following companies assisted with these tasks: Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company (70); Roxana Volunteer Fire Company (90); Frankford Volunteer Fire Company (76); Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company (83); and Indian River Volunteer Fire Company (80) Additional information may be viewed via the following website: http://www.bethanybeachfire.com/gallery/detail?id=521 |
