On Sunday morning, September 20th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Long Neck Road in the area of (ITAO) of Mariner’s Cove and Fairfield. It was reported to be involving two vehicles and two utility poles.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility, the Delaware State Fire Police as well as the Sussex County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the local ambulance service provider.

It appears that a maroon Chevrolet sedan was traffic north on Long Neck Road and crossed the center line for an unknown reason striking a southbound silver KIA sedan on the rear driver’s side causing it to strike a utility pole on the passenger’s side. The Chevrolet sedan continued onward crashing into another utility pole. The second utility pole was fractured requiring the assistance of the proving utility company.  The status of aviation units were requested but later declined.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
